It’s not new news that texting has taken over. You’ve got at least one friend that doesn’t like to talk on the phone anymore, and only texts. That friend isn’t alone, in fact, 55% of those that text a lot, agree they’d rather text than talk.
The text messages you send everyday could get you fired
What happens when your company decides to engage in the bring your own device to work trend? The texts to friends and family that probably include some personal information are now part of your work phone. If required, your company could indicate that your phone needs to be accessed for legal purposes during a criminal investigation or lawsuit. You thought you had them secured right?
So, how would you feel about your CEO, boss, lawyers and or local police reading your text messages? Have you ever complained about work or a colleague in a text? Okay sure, you could delete any texts that you think might harm you if read out of context or by the wrong party, but did you know that text messages can usually be retrieved from the central server. You could inadvertently end up getting fired! Also consider the fact that text messages sent from your work/personal phone won’t be encrypted, which means the information you’re sending could potentially be intersected by a third party.
As technology evolves, so must we. Always consider what, where and how you’re saying something. Could it be used against you? Do you really mean it? Can you trust the person you’re sending the message to? If you’re not sure on the answer to these questions, consider getting a second phone that you can keep purely personal. It’s that, or controlling your digits so you don’t get in trouble! Secure text messages might make the difference here!
