BullGuard Spamfilter Performance
London, 16 August 2008
BullGuard today presented statistics on the performance of its Spamfilter during the first half of August.
During this timeframe, BullGuard’s Spamfilter checked just under 35 million email messages and found 20,5 million of them to be spam. This is a spam percentage of just under 60%. The average catch rate was 99,26% and the average percentage of false positives was found to be 0,203%. False positives are cases where an email is identified as spam, but is in fact valid.
BullGuard’s Spamfilter is part of the company’s flagship product, BullGuard Internet Security and is also available as a free standalone product.
“These are excellent numbers,” said Theis Søndergaard, BullGuard’s CTO. “We made our Spamfilter available as a free standalone product last January in an effort to step up the fight against Spam. As our Spamfilter benefits from user input worldwide, the decision to make our Spamfilter available for free is having a positive effect on its performance. Fighting Spam is a continuous process which constantly needs fine tuning and we are determined to keep improving in this field.”
