Configure e-mail applications
Built-in support for Outlook, Windows mail, Mozilla Thunderbird and IncrediMail
BullGuard has built-in support for Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express (Windows XP only), Windows Mail (Windows Vista only), Mozilla Thunderbird and IncrediMail. The Training Guide is a user-friendly and easy-to-use tool greatly improving the Spamfilter’s efficiency. You can start the Guide from both the e-mail client and the BullGuard application.
Please note: If you use web-based e-mail addresses (e.g. Gmail or Hotmail) you should not need spam protection, as it will already be provided by the e-mail service provider.
Along with customising the Spamfilter directly from the installed application, a very important step is to complete the Training Guidefor the preferred e-mail client. This is very important as it will fine tune the Spamfilter, increasing the accuracy of detecting spam e-mails and identifying legitimate e-mails.
The Guideshould automatically start the first time you open your e-mail client after installing BullGuard. You can also run it manually by simply clicking the Guide button from the Spamfilter toolbar that is added to your e-mail client toolbar.
Running the Guide
Running the Guide from the BullGuard application is a quick way of setting up the Spamfilter for the preferred e-mail client.
To start the Guide, click on the Configure e-mail client button in the Spamfilter overview window.
Here you will need to select the e-mail client you wish to use the BullGuard Spamfilter with. Once you have selected it, click on the Next button.
Here you can choose the default Spam folder where all spam e-mails will be redirected. For all e-mail clients, BullGuard will choose the Deleted Items folder by default.
All previously whitelisted addresses will be displayed at this step. You can remove them or add some in order to minimise the risk of false positives.
BullGuard will read all the addresses you have in the marked folders - make sure you only select the ones where you are sure there is no Spam email - such as Sent Emails, Contacts, Drafts and others. This will greatly reduce the 'false positive' detection of legitimate e-mails as spam.
At this step select folders containing only SPAM e-mails. You can select several folders. Make sure the selected folders do not contain legitimate e-mails as it can create problems with increased 'false positive' detection rates.
You can make final adjustments to the Spamfilter by checking any of the following general settings as needed:
Mark spam e-mails as ‘read’:when BullGuard moves the e-mails to the spam folder it will make sure they do not show up as unread.
Add blocked e-mails to your blacklist:when you manually mark an e-mail as spam, BullGuard will add the sender to a blacklist. This means that if you receive any more e-mails from a blacklisted e-mail address, they will be sent directly to the designated spam folder.
Add unblocked e-mail addresses to the whitelist:when you manually mark e-mails as "Not Spam" in the e-mail client, BullGuard will add the sender to the e-mail whitelist. This will ensure that the e-mails form that sender will not be marked as spam again.
BullGuard will start analysing the content of the folders you have selected for both spam and non-spam e-mails.
The last screen is the finish message. The Guide can be re-run at a later date if the folder structure in the e-mail client has been changed, or if the Spamfilter is reset to default.
