Some assistance with the removal of the smitfraud trojan would be appreciated.

With someones recommendation, I ran Hijackthis and created this log. If someone could helpo guide me in how to procede from here, it would be greatly appreciated.

The log:

Hi,

1. Download http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1
and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode:

Open the "smitRem" folder, then double click the "RunThis.bat" file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.  Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again --- this is normal.
Wait for the tool to complete and Disk Cleanup to finish --- this may take a while; please be patient.

Next go to Start -> Control Panel, click Display -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop -> Web -> Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Restart your computer in normal mode.

If problem persists, also download ewido anti-malware;
2. Download and install the free version of Ewido anti-malware.
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Update first then scan in safe mode.

I appreciate the help. I did everything you said, and it removed all the symptoms of the problem. Howver, when I run spybot to detect spyware, I still get an entry for "smitfraud-C" that spybot is unable to remove. I have gotten no furthur indications of spyware with any other scan though, so I am not sure what the deal with spybot is.

Anyways, thanks for the assistance.

Maybe it is just a registry entry left, a remnant of smitfraud, don't know why Spybot can't remove it though.
Check for updates before scanning Spybot, and download if there are any updates.
Does Spybot give you the path or the registry path that points to smitfraud?
