I have a new problem 2 days ago my computer started to boot up real slow.
I had made no changes at all.
It takes about 5 minutes to ge to my desk top.
I have tried " msconfig" and stopped all programs from loading it did not help!
I have 18 Gb of free space on the HD.and it is clean and defragged
I have no virusses or spyware.
I use trend micro PC Cillin.
The system is a 900Mhz athelon and 768 MB ram'
The biggest slowdown comes after the XP logo screen then it goes to a gray screen for about 3 Min. the HD red light stays on all the time.
After I get to the desktop all seems to work OK
I have 20 yrs of computer experience but I have never encountered this!
Anyone have any ideas?
thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,
I saw your problem and I have similar computer experience and had the same problem. Nothing new to cause, just started doing a 3-4 min boot on startup...grey screen and all..??? I decided to get some of the cords out away from my feet and purchased several extention cord multiplugs. I was using two and had a mixerboard, two sets of speakers, tapedeck amp, vcr plugged into these as well as two printers, modem, router and fax machine and telephone. Once I split out the phones to one, speakers and tapes to another , misc to the third and just my computer and router on the last, bingo! I am back to a normal boot. I am somewhat thinking that the multiplug I had was just overloaded. What a great simple solution...hope it is something like this for you. I have been putting up with this for months.
Good luck
Pat
