I have the same problem. Can't wait for slow, slow messages on Thunderbird. Switched to Outlook Express and downloaded thirty emails in a minute or less.
Please tell me if disabling the "scan incoming emails" option solves the emails issue. I need to understand if the antivirus engine is the cause for this.
Thank you.Best regards,

I know AVG scans Thunderbird, but not sure about Outlook express. Did not notice a way to turn off scanning in the email programs. I'll see if AVG is specific about who it scans.
After A restart the problem is there again. If the option "Scan incoming mail" is deactivated (and restart PC) the problem is gone.-+-+-+-+-+- Greetings T.O.M. -+-+-+-+-+-
BTW - when you SEND attachments - is it slow to upload? Another thing that MAY cause the issue: is the option to "append BullGuard scan results to Email" (or something like that) enabled? Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?
