I recently tried using Zone alarms free firewall wtih my dialup, yet it slowed my connection to the point it barely worked. While checking internet settings i found a setting to change specifically for a firewall. This is on Xp and I was wondering if this would make a difference, if not does anyone know of one for dialup?
Having a firewall installed on your computer may cause system slowdowns, because of the active firewall module that is constantly monitoring your computer for threats that may appear. This may also depend on your computer's hardware specifications.
Your connection may also be slowed down, if you by mistake block internet access to system processes that actually need to be allowed to access the Internet, so that you can browse safely. You may wish to try the firewall's default settings, and not customize them, if you have any doubts about certain Windows processes.
