Pentium III with Windows ME with Adaware, Spybot and CA AntiVirus up to date. Connected to internet via DLink router & cable modem.

Problem is mostly after computer sits idle for a while. Out pops a large white message box (3" x 5") with nothing on it except an OK button. If you press the button, window goes away and everything is seemingly OK, except computer won't go on the internet and Windows explorer does not work well. Computer responds to shutdown and restart and works normally until this happens again sometimes within minutes or new few hours. Strangely, the problem has not happenned while the computer is being used.

What might this be.. O wise one!

It looks like the log i fixed. Just to be sure, please post a logfile -

Download:
Hijackthis

Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into

Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".

Now you have C:\HJT\folder.

Run Hijackthis exe- Push - Do a systemscan and save a logfile – button

And Highlight the Entire Log by pressing Ctrl+A and Copy it. Post log here

Thanks Touch for looking at this. I know now that you will get fixed.

Actually the Empty Message box has a "Close" button (not a "OK" button) ... The rest of what I described is accurate.

Reboot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 after the BIOS has loaded.

Delete the following files or folders (delete item in bold). Please do not be concerned if
any of the items are not found as they may have been automatically removed by actions I had
you take earlier in the cleaning process.

Open Folder Options in Controlpanel >view and check your settings:
Select
Show hidden files and folders
Display the contents of system folders
Uncheck: Hide protected operating system files

Delete:

Files:

Folders:

Next go to Start- Search and scrolldown using the scroll bar on the right. Go down to More advanced options and click.
Be sure the first three boxes are selected:
Search System folders
Search Hidden Files and folders
Search SubFolders

And delete:
PowerReg SchedulerV2.exe

Reboot, if you still have popups, rightclick on it, see if there are any properties

Thanks Touch. I will go through your suggestions.

In the meantime, I saw something that I thought I should report.

Today the same box with similar symptoms came up.... Except, it was not empty. It said, "TEATIMER caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.dll at 0177:bff614ac". It has the same Close button. I pressed and it closed. I tried to launch IE. It said, "Not enough resources to launch ... close some programs and try again".

Hopefully, this means something to you??

Let´s try disabling Teatimer and see if it help

Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on System Startup icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box.
Click Allow Change box.
