It doesn't matter what make of PC you are running on. My PC is a Mesh PC, which came with Vista and Bullguard v7 installed. I was using Windows firewall and Defender (not Bullguard Firewall). Everything was great for the first 6 months, until the dreaded Vista Service Pack SP1 (KB936330) was installed. Then the PC would hang most of the time, and got all the other symptoms everyone has described above. I reloaded Windows, reinstalled Office, etc and after a very helpful email from Bullguard, installed Bullguard v8...This time I used the Bullguard Firewall (use 'Services' to disable Windows Firewall and Defender). All great for about a week...then Vista Service Pack SP1 installed itself again. This time, the PC totally refused to boot into normal mode at all.
NOW THE SOLUTION... I reloaded Windows again, and reinstalled Bullguard v8 as before. HOWEVER, as soon as Vista Service Pack SP1 announced it wanted to be installed a couple of days later, I un-installed Bullguard completely, and enabled Windows Firewall and Defender to give some protection. Once SP1 had installed fully, I then downloaded Bullguard v8 again, and re-installed it, having disabled Windows Firewall and Defender........IT WORKS GREAT!!!!!!
Therefore it seems to me that when Bullguard is running at the same time as the Service Pack installation, Bullguard may possibly block or corrupt some aspect of the Service Pack's installation, which causes the problems. (...However, that's one for Bullguard to look into) All I can be certain of is that as long as Bullguard is not installed at the time of the Service Pack installation, it can be re-installed immediately afterwards, and everything runs successfully from there on.
This product sucks as far as updateS and compatibility issues are concerned(though not as bad as norton). I have vista64 sp1 with bullguard 8 then upgraded to 8.5, ok for months. Then after recent update requiring reboot(therefore prog update not just defs)system locks as everyone else has experienced. Narrowed it down to the on access plugin(turn it off and all ok). Have ghosted system back to clean install with SP1 and all windows updates, installed bullguard system OK, updated bullguard system then goes t1ts up proving it is a faulty update, even did msconfig and disabled all unecessary services and programs running on start still same. The management really need to have a close look at their programming team as someone aint doing their job very well. will keep bullguard as the online backup is worth the money alone, but will change the security to Kaspersky
