Since installing Bullguard 8 I have been unable to send messages using Windows Mail (the Vista version of Outlook Express). The only solution which works is to disable Bullguard while I send mail and restart it after it has sent. Bullguard support has been unable to resolve the problem. Is there anybody out there who has (or is) experiencing this?

Hello smile

Let´s see what´s running on you´r computer -

Please download Combofix:

And save to the desktop.

Close all other browser windows.

Important-> Temporarily disable your anti-virus, real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with combofix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".

Go to Start->Run and copy/paste: ComboFix /snapshot and hit OK. It should run Combofix.

Please note, that once you start combofix you should not click anywhere on the combofix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when combofix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.

When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\combofix.txt.

Post the contents of that log in your next reply.

Combofix downloaded and run as instructed, but, after creating a restore point, the program stops with the Window message "Windows Command Processor has stopped working"! Is there some other action I need to take?

Let´s try another scanner --

Download Deckard's System Scanner http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/Deckard/dss.exe
to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.

Once the scan has completed a textbox will appear - copy/paste those contents back here (main.txt).
Also a the second text file, extra.txt, will show as minimized in your Task Bar. Maximize/Open this, and copy/paste those contents back here along with the main.txt please.
(The logs can also be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder)

Ok.

BullGuard uses an “Email Monitoring Service” in order to scan your messages and filter the spam. This service is hosted by a Windows process called svchost.exe – the Generic Host Process for Win32 Services – and this is the executable file which will need Internet access to send or retrieve your messages. Thus, on most occasions, you will not find an entry for your email client among BullGuard’s Firewall Rules.

Solution
1. Open BullGuard and go to the Firewall section > Overview tab.
2. Select the Advanced user level and go to the Profiles tab.
3. Double click the “Custom Security” profile and select the Application Rules tab from the window that appears.
4. Locate all the instances of “Generic Host Process for Win32 Services” allow Internet access for each of them.
5. Click OK in order to confirm the changes and close BullGuard’s console.

See if it help ?

There are no instances of “Generic Host Process for Win32 Services” in the list. The nearest item is "Host Process for Windows Services" which is already marked as "Allow". So no joy there, I'm afraid.
