On startup I had a dialog box for logging into Bullguard, which has never happened before. When I try to login the message "Failed initiating the internet connection" appears. Does this mean my Bullguard is not working? Or does not recognise my password? Help?!

Hello

Is it only Bullguard you get the message from, and can you use internet normally ?

Yes, just Bullguard. I can use internet fine, just not sure if Bullguard is running. Whenever I try the login it fails, and if I cancel it closes Bullguard completely.

Ok, it´s probably not good news I have then. I´ll suggest you uninstall Bulguard -

Go to the Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
2. Locate BullGuard in the programs list and remove it.

When asked whether you wish to keep the current settings it is VERY IMPORTANT that you choose NOT to.

Reboot, install Bullguard again.

See if it help ?

OK, thanks. I have spent the past few hours uninstalling my Bullguard, reinstalling, and then doing a scan in safe mode.
Now when I start up I am still prompted to login and when I do, this time I get the message: "Local error retrieving user data", and so I still cannot login.

Any advice? I did also run a WinASO Registry clean, and CCleaner. I am running Windows Vista SP1

OK. I once again uninstalled and reinstalled v8. I had a disabled Comodo Firewall which I have now also (reluctantly) uninstalled, as v8 seems to have a Vista compatible Firewall. At "the moment" (touches wood) things seem to be working (but they did initially last time too - until I did my first scan. I haven't done so this time yet). I will keep fingers crossed all will be well ;)

Seems to things still are running well ?

If they do, I´ll suggest you  remove/uninstall Comodo Firewall

Yes, still running well. I uninstalled Comodo Firewall, and have been advised to also remove Windows Defender too. I had not realised it could cause a conflict with v8.

Thanks

Sounds good. I assume you have Vista ? If you have, deactivate/uncheck Windows Defender in msconfig, look here howto:
