Bullguard affecting audio and internet

For some reason, whenever Bullguard is running it causes severe lag and distortion of whatever audio is playing when I use networking at the same time, by browsing the internet or using Skype for example. Closing Bullguard fixes the problem instantly. Any idea what could be causing this? I updated both Bullguard and my sound drivers to no avail. Closing Bullguard however, also causes my internet speed to plummet. Most sites take forever to load and some just don't load outright. Right now I'm having to choose between audio and surfing the web, which is a bit of a problem for a music student. Loading up Bullguard instantly brings back my internet speed but brings back the audio lag too.

I'm on Windows 7 64-bit and running Bullguard 8.5. Same setup as my desktop PC but no problems on that

ETA: My Bullguard updates automatically but I know Bullguard 12 is the latest one, am I entitled to that as a Bullguard subscriber or do different versions have to be bought separately?

BullGuard 13 is the latest one. You should upgrade to it, since it's free of charge.
Download it from here: http://www.bullguard.com/downloads.aspx
