Playing with the bullguard security software. I had a couple of suggestions that would immensely help this game out.
1. autoscan/autodetect of games on the pc
One thing that I noticed that was extremely frustrating and painstakingly long to do was having to go to each profile 1 by 1, and not only confirming the locations, but also having to make sure it is properly configured. To go along with another post about user-created profiles, the autoscan should not only locate all of the games installed, but also show a list of what was detected, and whether you choose to load a pre-configured profile for each game.
I would also have a system setup that constantly adds new games to the database, so that if a new game is installed, the user can be notified that there is a pre-configured profile available, that you can choose to load it onto your system immediately. I would also add an extension to the shortcuts on the desktop, that when you right-click on them you have the option to add this to your gaming profile list as a new profile.
2. Integrate 3rd party anti-cheat programs to the security suite
Seeing as how this is a product that's being tailored for gamers, why not include software that helps maintain the integrity of online gaming. This may require some extensive collaboration with Punkbuster and similar ani-cheat software. Possibly after some updates, it would allow us to choose whether to run the software in-game or through the security suite. But keep it as an option to disable it at one's choosing.
its probably cause he changed the directories when installing his games instead of using the default path of
C:\Program Files\CompanyOrGameName\GameName.exe
But Xfire has a detect installed games function which it runs everytime you run the program. Would be nice if they could implement something like this but not as a check everytime you run it. Intead, as an optional check.
Say you've just installed a new game and can't be bothered creating a new profile, giving it a name and finding the game file(s). You can hit the detect games button and it creates profiles for any games that are missing a profile :D
Only problem is, it probably requires a database of games to check against ><
Cause, its not going to know if its a game or just some other program.- Crystalizer
i agree, i've got my games installed on a different hard drive and the majority of them are not already in the list so i would have to manually add all the settings, thankfully i dont play all of them online otherwise it would take forever lol
Well the database shouldn't be too hard. Just fill it with the .exe files for games, and once finished the security suite what shows what have been detected on the pc. You can then have the option to select if you choose to load a specific profile for that game. Since 3rd party voice apps like teamspeak and vent are commonly used, I would also include the option to enter a port for each specific game for those who are in clans, etc. I know that you could assign multiple .exe files and open ports already. However, I would like to see this more streamlined to users who don't want to have to be so hands-on for every single game that they want to play.
I would also like to see some kind of network monitor like lagmeter. Something that will allow us to not only monitor traffic within our own network, but how the current speeds may be affected by internet congestion. Maybe include a plug-in to several severs around the country, and compare them to you isp service tier.
I love the idea of your "lagmeter". However, it would not be totally reliable, as I'm sure we'll get less lag connecting to a BG server than an average gaming server.. De!!!!e of that it'd be nice to have a tool to measure it :)Audentes Fortuna Iuvat
as much as I like the idea of a lagmeter, I think its rather impractical ...
if its on while you're gaming, you're constantly sending and receiving packets from a server and its going to slow down your net speed - majorly annoying if you're playing an online game ... just like how even msn can lag you >.>
its like adding another player into w/e game you're playing
if you want to check your net speed ... theres always sites like www.speedtest.net- Crystalizer
I agree, I would also prefer some type of autoscan, as opposed to having to manually create a file everytime you install a new game. In my household of multiple users and multiple computers, I can easily see those files not being created, so it does defeat the point of a gamer's edition...
As far as lag (meters or otherwise), at least we can applaud BG for being sensitive to the needs of gamers, and creating this anti-virus to run as minimally as possible while you are gaming - there's enough factors contributing to lag, at least our anti-virus doesn't have to be one of them.

Hmm, nope ...
I understand completely and comply with your idea, since i despise cheaters, thieves and dupers in online gaming (playing Ultima Online - where it's a bit of a problem) - but i neither think nor feel that Bullguard has a legal right to block options if any want to be cheaters or not - neither do i think they have time for making block options, their duty first of all is to make the product work (i have an impossible transmission time on my Outlook Express when Bullguard is controlling the trans).
Sry - but i vote no.
Intelligence without wisdom is an empty option: I don't have problems ... i have solutions !
