Ok, I am pretty new to all of this set your own profile stuff so I need some help.

There are a few games we play in this house that I can't seem to set up a profile for.Renegade is one and we use GameSpy 3D to play this. I know there is a profile for Gamespy and when we launched that there was no problem, but no such luck for the latter. So I have looked about and tried ot find the right pathway to set up a profile and I have had no luck!

The other game we play a lot of in Runescape by Jagex. It plays in the browser amd I launch it directly from my desktop with the downl;oaded windows client.. hope that makes sence!!! I was really hoping that I would be able to use this gamers antivirus to help get rid of some major lag that we have while playing..

There are other browser based games that my kids use, Battleon, Dragon Fable are just a couple.

Tales of Pirates is also a popular one in this house..

I hope someone out there can help point me in the right direction.. is this gamers version going to help me?

tbbh (to be brutally honest) ... browser based games are hardly worth calling games ><
and if you lag while playing them then theres 2 causes. The first one is your hardware itself, whether its your modem/router or pc. Because seriously, running your everyday web browser isn't exactly a demanding task XD
The second is your net speed. Obviously, if its slow, you're going to lag lol

Having said that, you can always set up a "gamers profile" to activate when you start up your web browser, whether it be internet explorer, firefox, etc

If you need a hand with this I'd be happy to give some instructions to help out :D

As for your gamespy issue, I'll have to look up the game to know what you're dealing with cause I've never heard of it ><

EDIT ::::
Ah company is gamespy lol
The gamespy profile that comes with the gamers edition is NOT for this game. The game is a sort of Command and Conquer - RTS game
Technically speaking, you could use any RTS gamer profile and it should be fine.
Mainly StarCraft and WarCraft 3

If you want some specific settings different to the ones there, then yea its a wise idea to create a whole new profile.

Yes I agree that browser based games are totally different to games such as WOW ect but we happen to love Runescape. I have ADSL2 which gives me a fairly good speed (about 5000kbps). I do have issues with the phone line, it has been cut and joined back together and the landlord is getting it replaced as I assumed it may have been the problem.

I would like to set up Bullguard so that the browser is recognised and a "gamers profile" is activated. Any help there is appreciated!

Ok, now the Gamespy 3D, I think I know what to do to set this profile up..

My thinking is that I take the Star Craft profile and edit it. confused

I think with my limited knowledge in this area I will truly be testing the Gamers Edition.. now lets see if a novice can navigate her way around without breaking anything.. lol

I will be back to let you know how I did!

Update...

Well, I managed to go in and change the star craft profile and rename it.. I don't know if that was the right way to make a new profile but it appears to have worked.. and I have not broken anything. Now to see if I can do anyting with the browser issue.

I am now installing the Beta version on our laptop which has developed some major issues with Blue screening after you log out of several different games. I was advised that it might be because of lack of system resources, without my IT friends here to help I am thinking that using a "gamers profile" I might free up those resources and stop the blue screen from appearing.

Can I make a suggestion that there is a simple step by step process given in the help menue. There are some of us that really don't know what we are doing but want to learn.. idea

I wish this was like a proper forum allowing BBcode ~_~
I'd set up a tutorial with screenshots lol ...

I'll try my best to explain ...

Open up BG
Go to the Gaming section - Overview tab
Near the bottom, theres a circle button with a '+' on it (add profile)
Click that and then you have a new profile to edit and play around with!

This way, you can create multiple custom profiles without disrupting whats already there! :D

Now, for your web browser settings
Go to edit on this newly created game profile (or an existing one)
General settings
Again hit the '+' button
Then find your way to your web browser
* C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe
* C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
and similar for Opera or Safari

As for your blue screens, has that happened before you used this beta? Cause I've had it happen once since I started using this beta ... I reported it but I have yet to experience it a 2nd time

Just a heads up!
When you play around with the settings for an online game, be weary of the firewall ... some games have antihack detectors and thinks the firewall is a hacking program and shuts down the game - I've yet to find a way around it other than to not activate the game profile, still a lot of settings that I can alter ... I'll find one that will be allowed eventually!

Ah, I see the little + sign.. hehe.. don't know why I didn't notice it sooner..

Ok, I will see what I can do with this information.

On the blue screen issue, it was an exisiting problem that I hope to fix with this Beta test.. It only started after I was forced to update Windows Media Player 11 so I could download music I had paid for..

I have set up Bullguard on the laptop and am just waiting for my kids to go and test the performance and then shut down the game to see if it crashes again.. For some reason I have had to reboot three times after installing the Beta Test as I could not launch anything. Not internet explorer, not games, not even the task manager. It appears that the third reboot has magically worked and most programs are now launching. We still have a few more to test, but trying to get the kids to just log in and then out without playing seems to be impossible..

Just on your last comments, I wonder if Gamespy3D did not launch because of the profile.. they are pretty strict on not allowing you to cheat, you need to install Renguard to be able to play on the servers that host the Renegade game through Gamespy3D. In return did that then upset anything else I tried to launch because Bullguard still had the profile for Gamespy3D activated? After the second reboot I tried to launch the game and it did not work so I tried to launch a few other things and they did not work also, I then checked the settings in Bullguard and it said that the profile for Gamespy3D was activated even though the game did not launch. I changed over to the general profile but still had no luck so I rebooted for the third time.

I hope I am making sense here .........

Ok, back to the laptop to test a few things out..

I think thats cause you manually activated the game profile? ... if thats the case, then you need to manually deactivate it. Hope it helps in the future!

I didn't manually activate it, but I had a test run on all the games none of them blue screened on exit, everyone is very happy now. I could not re-create the issue and put it down to my laptop rather than the antivirus.

I also managed to set up the browser based profile. As I had the Runescape client downloaded to the desktop where it launches into it's own browser with none of the add ons, I was able to restrict the proflie to just when I play the game. That way we can still have the regular protection when we surf the net. The game is Java based and often takes a bit to load but this time it loaded much faster and from the brief time spent online I had very little lag problems. turn
