Recently, i went on a webpage that, it seems, changed my homepage so the next time i opened Internet Explorer i got infected with viruses, mainly trojan downloaders and then a full screen pops and asks me to press enter to complete the intallation of "Second thought" and others of the same screen keep poping up until i unplug my modem. So, now, when i run avg and bullguard, they find and delete or put in virus vault every virus they find, they seem to "solve" the problem, i also run spybot and change my homepage to something secure. But when i re-plug my modem and open Internet explorer, even by open Windows Explorer and typing, say, google.com, the viruses re-infect me and i get this "Second thought" screen.
I would highly apreciate some help or direction, thanks
Hi there. I had problems with my homepage for months. Removing worms and trojans and viruses has become a hobbie. Unfortuanetly, using Internet Exporer seems to be an invitation to get most anything. Also, if you're running windows XP, that seems to invite more Viruses and Trojans than any other system. Anyways, I have 2 suggestions that should help you.
Obviously, first, try not to use interenet exporer so much, or at all.
if your DSL provides another browser, try to use that. Yahoo! does for me, and I find i get WAY less crap if I explore with that program.
If you dont have an alternate browser, I have used FireFox browser and heard great things about it. At least its not an open invitation like IE 6.0 is. You can download firefox quickly, and its a very small program, so give it a shot.....
also, and most importantly. i would run as much Anti-Virus ware as you can get your hands on. SpyBot is good, but not updated often enough. I would also get CWshredder. That is just a necessity. My favorite is AVG anti-virus, and you can Download that for free here:
I do have used AVG, CWshredder and spybot and they cleaned eveything that they found, and i looked at my highjackthis log and theres nothing evidently bad, some IE files seem to be corrupted or something. So ya i'l trty another browser and see if it changes, i didnt think about that. But, you know, its always more satisfying to really solve the problem itself ^^, but it would be nice to actually be able to go on the net.
I'l tell you if it works and if anyone has a way to get rid of it please tell me.
first I think you should do a disk clean, with your restore on, when the window pops up to tell you what you can do click the more options tab, and click remove all restore points. Then click ok for everything else that it asks for. Then you go into control panel click performance and maintenance, then basic info on your computer. when that comes up click the tab that says system restore put a check in the box that says shut off system restore. disinfect computer again then restart with a cold boot. If you have any Questions let me know happy to help.
I'l try that in that order, it could work, but i already did most of it separately. What i find strange, its that where-ever i ask, just no-one ever had the problem i have, it must be pretty new or something cause its particularly anoying so i thought some people would have experienced it.
Oh, and i installed FireFox, it worked good until now, i'm pretty relieved, but i really want to get rid of this thing on explorer.
Had it been me I probably would have used netscape, it runs on mozilla as well, not familiar with firefox yet. the reason I said that you need to do all the other is that viruses seem to like to write themselves in the restore programs, they like to come back when you restart.
