norton doesn't recognise it. i found it with avg but it hides itself and now even avg is convinced it's gone     i've done 3 on-line scans and no-one can find it but it's still there throwing out adware, malware etc at an incredible rate.

 

it's on both partitions of my H/D and hides itself in recycler. which is protected.

 

even in SAFE MODE I'm denied access and can't get rid of it. I try it in DOS and it tells me access is denied.

 

I've tried deleting, renaming, over-writing, ignoring, talking nicely, praying. last resort - throw it out the window? 

 No need for that,

 what you have is spyware, try downloading ad aware from lavasoft and scanning, also delete your temp internet files, do a disk clean, then turn restore off. that should help.
