Scan for viruses
After installing a security application, it’s recommended that you scan your computer for any possible threats. That’s why, as soon as BullGuard is installed on your computer, it will recommend a full system scan to ensure a virus-free environment.
All BullGuard scan activities are based on specific profiles defining which locations and what file types need to be scanned and how to deal with possible infections.
You can start scanning your computer anytime, in one of two ways:
- from the BullGuard interface – using the scan buttons from the Run tab on the main screen or the scanning options in the Antivirus section
- through the Scan with BullGuard option in the right click menu of each file, folder or drive (also known as a contextual menu scan
Scan for viruses
Within the BullGuard application, you can make BullGuard scan your computer for threats in two ways:
- in the main application screen, go to the Run tab and click on the Run button from the Scan section. This will start a full computer sweep to check your PC for malware.
Quick scan: this scan profile will check the locations on your PC that are most likely to be targeted by viruses. It will check for rootkits and scan the registry, all the running processes and the temporary files stored on your computer.
Entire system: this is a complete profile that will scan all files on all hard drives. The time it takes to do this depends on your computer’s performance, the number of storage devices you use, file types and how much data you have stored.
Customized scans: if you have created profiles for specific scan tasks, click this button to start a scan with the desired profile. To run a specific profile, select it and then click on the Run profile button. To learn how to create custom Antivirus profiles, click here.
Note that the scan time will depend on the selected profile, on general computer performance and the amount of files to be scanned. Also, we recommend you let BullGuard finish the scan before performing any CPU intensive tasks on the computer, as this will affect scan times considerably.
Contextual menu scans
The Contextual menu scan refers to the integration of BullGuard On Demand scan in the Windows right click menu. This feature can be used on files, folders or drives and works as a time-saving option for on-the-fly scans.
When used, it will perform a full scan of the selected target. The scan interface is similar to the On Demand scans. If an entire drive is selected, BullGuard will perform a full scan of the drive. Note that the total scan time will depend on the size and file types of the selected item.
All clear: if no threats were detected, BullGuard will display a message accordingly. You can click View log to browse through the scan summary. When finished, just click on the Close button to close the window.
Infections found: if the scan found infections on your computer, the results window will display all infected files. For more details, click on the Found issues line.
BullGuard will try to disinfect or move the infected files to Quarantine. Quarantining a file guarantees that it will not be deleted in case it was a 'false-positive' detection case.
Found 4 issues: opens the scan summary so you can view all detected items.
Cancel: closes the scan results window.
Fix: attempts to fix the infections found during the scan.
Issues fixed by the Antivirus: once you click Fix, BullGuard will attempt to remove infections from your computer. If successful, the scan results window will tell you the operation succeeded and show you how many items where fixed from the issues detected by the scan.
View log: opens the scan log where you can review items that were detected and removed by BullGuard.
Close: closes the scan results window.
Remove on reboot option: allows BullGuard to schedule the file deletion during the Windows boot-up sequence. This feature comes into play when infected files are in use by system processes, preventing you and the Antivirus engine from deleting them.
View log: allows you to see the items detected by BullGuard and the infections that were fixed or scheduled for deletion during the next reboot.
Restart: restarts your computer to allow BullGuard to physically remote the infections from your PC.
Close: closes the scan results window and cancels the issue fixing process.
