Configure e-mail applications
Built-in support for Outlook, Windows mail, Mozilla Thunderbird and IncrediMail
BullGuard has built-in support for Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express (Windows XP only), Windows Mail (Windows Vista only), Mozilla Thunderbird and IncrediMail and the Training Guide is a user-friendly and easy-to-use tool greatly improving the Spamfilter’s efficiency. Users can start the Guide from both the e-mail client and the BullGuard application.
Please note: If you use web-based e-mail addresses (e.g. gmail or hotmail) you should not need spam protection, as that will already be provided by the e-mail service provider.
Along with customizing the Spamfilter directly from the installed application, a very important step is to complete the Training Guide for the preferred e-mail client. This is very important as it will fine-tune the Spamfilter, increasing the accuracy of detecting spam e-mails and of identifying legitimate e-mails.
The Guide should automatically start the first time you open your e-mail client after installing the BullGuard Spamfilter. You can also choose to run it manually by simply clicking the Guide button from the Spamfilter toolbar that is added to your e-mail client toolbar.

Running the Guide from the BullGuard application
Running the Guide from the BullGuard application is a quick way of starting to set up the Spamfilter for the preferred e-mail client.
To start the Guide, click on the Configure E-mail Applications button in the Spamfilter overview.
Step 1
Click Next for the page and proceed to where you can choose the preferred e-mail client. Once you have selected it, click on the Next button.
Step 2
For the second step, please choose the default Spam folder where all spam e-mails will be redirected. For all e-mail clients, BullGuard will choose the Deleted Items folder by default.
Step 3
The next step will have BullGuard read all the addresses you have sent e-mails to (it will pick them up from the e-mails you have in the Sent Items and Contacts folder) and will add them to the white list. This will greatly reduce the 'false positive' detection of e-mails as spam.
Step 4
You can make final adjustments to the Spamfilter by checking any of the following general settings as needed.
Move spam e-mails to spam folder and mark it as read: When BullGuard moves the e-mails to the spam folder it will make sure they do not show up as unread e-mails.
Add blocked e-mails to your blacklist: When you manually mark an e-mail as spam, BullGuard will add the sender to a black list. This means that if you receive any more e-mails from a blacklisted e-mail address, will be sent directly to the designated spam folder.
Add unblocked e-mail addresses to the white list: When manually marking e-mails as "Not Spam" in the e-mail client, BullGuard will add the sender to the e-mail white list. This will ensure that the sender will not be marked as spam again.
Running the Guide from the e-mail client
The Guide should automatically start the first time you open your e-mail client after installing the BullGuard Spamfilter. You can also choose to run it manually simply by clicking the Guide button from the Spamfilter toolbar, which you will find in your e-mail client toolbar.
Step 1
Open the e-mail client and click on the Guide button from the Spamfilter toolbar.
Step 2
Click on the Next button to jump to start setting up the Spamfilter.
Step 3
Choose the default spam folder. The Deleted Items folder is selected by default; if required, another folder can be created by pressing the + button. Click Next to proceed.
Step 4
The Spamfilter will now read the content of the Sent Items folder and will create a list of trusted users based on the e-mails from the Sent Items folder. This feature greatly reduces the risks of having e-mails from trusted senders marked as spam. By clicking the + button, e-mail addresses can be added and, in reverse, removed when the – button is used.
Step 5
For the next step, you will need to indicate only non-spam folders. You can select several folders.
Make sure that the selected folders do not contain spam e-mails as it can adversely affect the Spamfilter training, by decreasing the spam e-mails detection rate.
Step 6
Select folders containing only SPAM e-mails. You can select several folders.
Make sure the selected folders do not contain legitimate e-mails as it can create problems with increased 'false positive' detection rates.
Step 7
Adjust the final settings for the e-mail client Guide:

Step 8
The last screen is the finish message. The Guide can be re-run at a later date if the folder structure in the e-mail client has been changed, or if the Spamfilter is reset to default.
