 Scanning your computer for viruses

One of the main objectives for BullGuard is to keep your computer clean of viruses.

This is first and foremost done by keeping new viruses out of your computer, by scanning your emails and

any new files downloaded or copied to your system.

But there is a great risk that a virus has already penetrated your system, prior to you installing BullGuard.

This is why it's a very good idea to scan your computer for resident viruses after you've installed BullGuard.

And it's definitely also a good idea to make it your routine to frequently scan your computer for viruses.

To scan your computer for viruses, please follow this guide:

1- button  Close all open programs

In order for BullGuard to make a complete scan, you need to shut down all open programs. Especially your

email-client (i.e. Outlook, Outlook Express or Eudora) is important to shut down.

2- button  Make sure BullGuard knows the latest viruses

Before you let BullGuard scan your computer you should make sure that BullGuard is up to date with its virus

definitions, since new viruses are found and identified every day. BullGuard tells you when it was last updated

in the main section:

1

If this date is not recent, you should let BullGuard update its virus definitions. This is very easy, and you can see

how to do it here: How to update your BullGuard

3 - button  Open the BullGuard scanning module

Go to the anti-virus section and click "Scan now":

2

4 - button  Choose drives

Now you have to choose which drive to scan:

3

Most standard PCs have only one harddrive, called the "C:"-drive. This is where your programs are stored - and viruses,

if any :)
If you have more than 1 harddrive installed on your computer, this will also appear on the list, along with any disk-drives,

CD-ROM or DVD-drives.

Please put a check in the checkboxes next to your harddrives, or whichever drives you wish to scan.

5 - button  Advanced settings?

If you are not that familiar with computers, now is the time to just click the "Start scanning" button. BullGuard will start the

scanning of your computer using the standard settings, which are sufficient.

More advanced users might want to take advantage of the scan-settings BullGuard offers. Explore these by clicking the

"Expert" tab and access the settings.

6 - button  Scan

Once all is set and you've clicked the "Scan" button, BullGuard will start the scanning. Depending on the size of your

harddrive this may take a while!

4

While scanning, BullGuard will show you its progress and alert you if any viruses are found.

Kind regards,

The BullGuard Team
