Don't let them infect your devices

Texting Privacy: 3 great apps to ensure your text messages stay private

Today, we ask the question that many of you have been curious about – just how private are your text messages?
The good news is that cell phone providers are not mandated to store or keep text messages or phone calls that are sent or received from a cell phone. However, you’re probably more at risk when that text message comes in at the wrong time, whether that’s while you’re on a date, at a meeting or asleep. Typically these aren’t major situations, however what happens when a private message is seen by someone who shouldn’t have seen it?

Prevent others from seeing your private text messages or emails

Private messages should not become public discussion points. There are a few apps to help you make sure that you are not the subject of that public discussion.

Perhaps the most robust app available out there, Wikr encrypts your text exchanges, and even auto deletes it within minutes or seconds of viewing – depending on your settings. This app is great to sending sensitive material to individuals you may not completely trust yet. The copy/past options are disabled, so you can rest easy.

iCrypt encrypts both your text messages and emails. This app works by sending your recipient a link which launches a password screen. Upon entering the password correctly, the message is shown. Important to note, recipients don’t even need to have the app installed on their phone, they just need to know the password. iOS This last option isn’t actually an app, but the iPhone operating system. iOS does provide you with the ability to alter your notifications so that your texts will not appear on screen. Simply go to Settings/Notifications/Messages, from there you can select to turn off the notifications completely, or simply setting the Show Preview option to Off. Always remember to download apps from reliable and trusted sources, like Apple’s AppStore.
