Bullguard is not finding anything wrong, but lately my internet is as slow as dial-up

Hello,

My computer is fully protected by Bullguard. But for some reason the internet on my computer has gotten very slow lately, like dial-up slow. It is only my internet, as all the other computer devices in the house are fine. When I run bullguard's scan or antivirus it does not find anything.

What should be my first step?

I was going to do a hijack this, but the hijack this page said

"Note: Only use this utility when advised by a security expert, or a member of the BullGuard Support Team. Using the
HijackThis tool without expert’s advice could seriously damage the integrity of your Windows installation."

So I was waiting to hear from someone on what to do first.

Hi Lea,

The issue is a little unclear: "It is only my internet provider, as all the other computer devices in the house are fine". Usually all devices in a house use the same ISP (internet service provider) and a router to create a private LAN.
If all your devices uses the same ISP/connection, the troubleshoot needs to be focused on the PC with the issue and on the connection between it and the router. For multiple ISPs (ie, 1 computer uses a Vodafone connection and the others an Orange one), it is harder to identify the problem as it may be related to the ISP infrastructure and how it handles peak hours.
Have you noticed any abnormal behavior or made any changes to your PC before this issue appeared?
Also, do you use a cable connection or WiFi?

I am sorry. I meant it is only the internet on my computer. It is fine in the rest of the house with all our other devices. And it is just as slow whether everyone is online in the house or just me. I use wi-fi. Nothing has changed, it use to work great just a couple of weeks ago. Did that make more sense?

Download AdwCleaner from here and run a scan with it. Remove all detected items and post the log.

The log shows that several browser add-ons and extensions were removed.
Can you check if your internet is faster now?

It is running better, but it still lags a lot, it does not run as well as it did a few weeks ago before this started.

Hello Lea,

Try this:

1. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware onto your desktop from here: https://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe
2. Double-click mbam-setup.exe and choose for "Next" to install this tool.
3. Once installed, go to SCAN tab and select “Threat Scan“, then click on the “Scan Now” button.
4. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will now check for updates, and if there are any, you will need to click on the “Update Now” button.
5. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will now start scanning your computer for malware.
6. When the scan has completed, you will now be presented with a screen showing you the malware infections that Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware has detected. To remove the malicious programs that Malwarebytes Anti-malware has found, click on the “Quarantine All” button, and then click on the “Apply Now” button.
7. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will now quarantine all the malicious files and registry keys that it has found. When removing the files, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot your computer, please allow it to do so.
8. Once all the performed actions are complete, follow the steps from this guide, to save a log and copy/paste it to your next reply:

It is quicker now...but instead every couple of hours it freezes and says my programs are not responding, after a couple of seconds they "unfreeze"

So it kept on "not responding" and then it started to get really slow again, so I ran the Malware again but now it does not find anything.

Is there anything else I can try?

Since you are a BullGuard user, my recommendation is to contact us via Live Chat and have one of our technicians have a look at your computer remotely. Sometimes there is a simple solution to such problems that you can only see in real time.
