Windows 7 action centre shows these messages ...

"Windows defender and Bullguard antispyware both report they are turned off"

"Bullguard antivirus reports that it is turned off"!

However , Bullguard antivirus is turned on  ( and so is windows firewall which I believe works with BG),and  I don't seem to have Bullguard antispyware unless it's part of  internet security 2019 .

Windows defender has never been activated because I use bullguard .

Why are these messages appearing and should defender be on ?

Hello Rik,

BullGuard is designed to be in harmony with the security embedded in the system, you can keep it on. However, the old Security Center in Windows 7 may be out of sync, for various reasons.

Try these steps to reset the repository and let me know if you have any more issues afterwards:

a)      Open an elevated command prompt as follows

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator

b)      In the command prompt  window type the command below and press Enter

winmgmt /verifyrepository

c)       You will get either one of these results:

WMI repository is consistent -no problems detected >> go to step f)

WMI repository is inconsistent -problems detected >> go to step d)

d)      To rebuild the repository type the command below and hit Enter

winmgmt /salvagerepository

e)      You will receive one of the results below

WMI repository is consistent -no problems detected >> go to step f)

WMIrepository salvage failed -failed to rebuild WMI repository. Try repeating step d) again.

WMIrepository has been salvaged - WMI repository has been successfully rebuilt. >> go to step g)

f)       Reset the repository to its initial state using the command below and hit Enter

winmgmt /resetrepository

g)      Now reboot the PC and check if the issue reoccurs

(warning) Before issuing winmgmt /resetrepository  in Windows 7 Command Prompt, stop the Windows Update service temporarily: Open services.msc in a Run window, right-click on Windows Update and choose Stop. ( the service will start automatic after restart).
