I have the latest version of Bullguard which I am running on my pc with windows xp. Over the last few weeks I have been unsuccessful in running a full system scan. Bullguard just stops at various different files and just doesnt complete. It has a couple of times managed 99% but mostly it will stop at 18% or 33%. Im not a computer Geek so Im not sure what I should be looking for or what to do. I have already had some support asking me to do various things but nothing seems to work. What do you suggest?

Is BullGuard the only antivirus system you are using? Allowing another security system, for instance Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials to run in the background will cause big problems when you try to system scan.

I have no other anti virus running. I already taken off windows defender. Just cant understand why it never completes a scan. Ive run disk defrag, disk check, even tried to run scan in safe mode with no success. It was also suggested that my HP all in one printer was responsible so I uninstalled that with no success. I would like to be able to find the problem if I can as I paid good money for this product and my pc runs so much faster using bullguard as opposed to norton which I had before which was such a resource hog. I would be grateful for any help.

You seem to have tried everything - I think it is now time for you to contact BullGuard Support. As you have said, you pay good money for the product and you want it to work properly.

Just one point. When you first installed BullGuard 9.0 you would have been prompted to do a full scan - did that ever complete or has there been a problem right from the start.?

Either way, I think that your problem should be raiised directly with BullGuard Support.

You are probably right in that I have tried everything. I have already been in contact with bullguard support and still not worked out the problem. In fact support have taken it to the development department for further analysis. I guess not being a computer wiz I was hoping someone might have some suggestions that may not have been tried yet. In answer to your other question I had a problem with my scans just after I purchased the product after a successful trial period. Support recommended I downloaded the latest version which I did. I was prompted to do a full scan but without success, so no, Bullguard hasnt completed a full scan yet.

Is there anything anyone can think of that I could try?

hiya, really grateful you have a number of new things to do to try and fix my ongoing issues. I have a few questions to ask before I post all logs n info you asked for. Im not very computer savvy and although most of what you asked i've been able to do, a few things im stuck on.
With regards to DSS ...you ask to disable script blocking features? I have no idea what that is or how to disable it. I ran DSS anyway and have 2 logs but whether this will show the right stuff you need I dont know because I didnt know what to do about script blocking.
Also you said to download latest Java. I did and on looking through add/remove programs to delete what I had on there already all that was there was 2 Java updates...so i deleted them anyway and so far when I try to install Java it wont install.

Just post the 2 log files. It is only if your avirus won´t allow DDS to run you have to disable script blocking ;-)

Please download Combofix from: Here

Before Saving it to Desktop, please rename it to alg.exe to stop malware from disabling it.

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, they may otherwise interfere with Combofix. There are details for disabling many programmes: here.

Close all other browser windows.

Double-click on the combofix icon found on your desktop.

Please note. That once you start combofix you should not click anywhere on the combofix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when combofix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.

Combofix will create a logfile and display it after your computer has rebooted. Usually located in c:\combofix.txt, please post it to your next post.

The logs will be reasonably large so you may have to divide them into sections and make several posts to post them.

Starting to despair!! Ok I downloaded combofix and renamed it and saved it to my desktop. I disabled bullguard and run combofix. First to pop up was Application error box with application corrupt and an ok check box. I clicked ok and combofix seemed to carry on..then I got grep.exe has encountered a problem and need to close. I clicked on the debug box and it seemed to carry on...Then I got the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process followed by PEV.cfxxe has encountered a problem and needs to close so I clicked debug and combofix carries on....Then I got the message that I didnt have microsoft recovery console installed so I clicked to install it which it said was successful and the program carries on completing stage 1 stage 2 stage 3 etc. During this I keep getting the Application error with application corrupt so I keep checking the ok box and it carries on running up to stage 50 when I get a blue screen error which said A problem has been detected and windows needs to shut down to prevent damage to pc.

"A bad pool header issue is a problem with Windows memory allocation. Device
driver issues are probably the most common, but this can have diverse
causes including bad sectors or other disk write issues, and problems
with some routers. (By theory, RAM problems would be suspect for memory
pool issues."

I´ll suggest you check ram first ->

Please read this how to:

https://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-62524-Tutorial-How-to-use-Memtest.html
Memtest will run forever, until you press <esc> to stop it, and reboot the machine.
At which time, you remove the Memtest floppy or CD from the drive.

Chances are, there is a single stubborn bit in one of the sticks
of memory, which can no longer be written. In which case, when you
examine the error log on the memtest screen, the same address
should be involved with each error reported.

Let me know if you have any ram errors ?

Yee Har....we have just successfully completed a full system scan!! I ran the memcheck and found out one of my memory sticks was corrupt so bought a new one, chucked it in, run a scan and hey presto, after weeks of brain ache...the problem is now solved!
Thankyou for all you help and advice.
