Data breachRecently an American Pediatric Hospital fell victim to a massive data breach. The personal information of over 1.5 million people was leaked, including names, dates of birth, financial and medical records.

Strangely in this case, the Hospital has been unable to identify if the information was lost or stolen – clearly there’s a big difference between the two and the information that was leaked is definitely not the sort of material you want falling into the wrong hands. Apparently, the files don’t appear to have been accessed or misused so far, so hopefully they were simply misplaced – but how scary is that? Unfortunately, breakdowns like this in hospital security of personal data is not breaking news, and while Hospitals are primarily responsible with safeguarding the lives of their patients, should they not be as stringent about safeguarding their patient’s sensitive data?
